Weekly Update (25th April to 29th April)

Unit of inquiry

• Guest lecture and performance on classical Indian dances like Bharatnatyam and Kathak by Ms.Shilpa Karmarkar.
• Students discussed and analyzed the Indian classical dances using  B.A.S.T.E.
• Guest lecture and performance by Ms.Melissa on western dance like ballet.
• Dance performances by students in groups: In groups the students were given an emotion to express through dance. They used B.A.S.T.E. to analyze performances.
• Students were shown a video on dances around the world. They chose a dance form that they wanted to research on.

Math

• Summative assessment of area and perimeter.
• Introduction to angles- right angle,acute angle and obtuse angle.
• Recap with the students of time to the hour, half an hour, quarter to , quarter past.
• Introduction to the concept of elapsed time.

Literacy

• Introduction to haiku poems.
• Students used the writing process to draft their own Haiku poems.
• Mini lesson on simile and metaphor.
• Read to self.
• Literature circles.

• Students started drafting cinquain poems.
• Introduction to sound devices like alliteration,onomatopoeia,rhyming words,repetition.
• Read to self
• spellings in groups.

Math

• Introduction to measuring area and perimeter of regular and irregular shapes using square units.
• Introduction to measuring area and perimeter of regular and irregular shapes using formulas.

• Students were introduced to Cinquain poems.
• Students made their own Cinquain poems using the writing process.

Unit of inquiry

• Guest lecture by Ms.Vibha Singh on the wonder material 'Graphene'.
• Reflection by students on the guest lecture.
• Discussion and reflection on how matter can be changed to meet our needs.

Language Arts

• Students chose an experiment that they wanted to publish. They revised,proofread and published their chosen piece.
• Students used the 6+1 trait rubric to mark themselves.
• Read to self.

Math

• Students continued their understanding of measurement.
• Measurement word problems.
• Students were introduced to probability and terms like certain,impossible,equally likely, likely and unlikely.

Unit of Inquiry

• Students inquired about physical change, chemical change, mixtures, solutions and ways to separate mixtures.
• Students did various experiments related to physical and chemical change.

Language Arts

• Integration with UOI- Students wrote experiments.
• Students practiced writing directions using transition words and action words.
• Students did spellings in their respective groups.

Math

• Students were introduced to different units of measuring length- millimetre,centimetre,metre,kilometre.
• Students measured the length of different things in the classroom using measuring tapes,meter stick.
• Students practiced converting units of measurement.
• Students were introduced to capacity- millilitres and litres.
