Weekly Update- 7th Dec to 11th Dec

Important information: Grade 3 exhibition is on 17th Dec from 9.30 to 10.30 am in the classrooms



Unit of Inquiry
  • Students used De Bono's thinking hats to analyse a case study on beavers.
  • Students inquired into the issue of 'oil spill' using De Bono's thinking hats. 
  • Students researched on issues affecting their biome and what is being done to protect biodiversity.
  • Students started making posters in their biome groups for the exhibition on 17th Dec.

Math

  • Students were introduced to multiplication of a 3 digit number by 1 digit number and multiplication word problems.
  • Students wrote about multiplication facts they know and understand.
  • Students were introduced to associative property of multiplication.
  • Students made and solved their own multiplication sums and word problems.
  • Formative assessment of multiplication was done and it is attached in the Math notebook.
Language Arts
  • Mini lesson on punctuation marks.
  • Introduction to 'Words their Way' (spellings) in different spelling groups.
  • Students chose a Report Writing piece that they would like to publish. They revised and edited their writing.
  • Conferring with teachers was done.

Weekly Update: 23rd Nov to 4th Dec

Unit of Inquiry

  • Students inquired into food chains/food webs and researched the food chains/food webs in their biome.
  • Presentation on biomes by the students which was uploaded on seesaw.
  • Students made a poster on food chain/ food web in their biome.
  • Students inquired into different symbiotic relationships and used i-Pad to research about relationships in their chosen biome.
  • Integration with Language Arts: Book- 'Cactus Hotel' was read to the students. Students used De Bono's hat to reflect their understanding.
Language Arts
  • Students wrote their first draft ( Report writing).
  • Mini lesson on capitalization and different types of sentences (simple,compound, complex).
  • Integration with UOI: Students wrote their second draft on biotic and abiotic components in their biome.
  • Reading non fiction text and reflection on it.
  • Literature Circle.
Math
  • Students were introduced to standard way of multiplying a 2 digit number by a 2 digit number ( with carry over).
  • Students were introduced to the lattice way of doing multiplication.

16th Nov to 19th Nov

Unit of Inquiry

  • Introduction and understanding the theme of the unit - 'Sharing the Planet'.
  • Introduction to habitat,ecosystem and biomes.
  • Students inquire into biotic and abiotic components of an ecosystem and the interaction between them.
  • Students choose a biome they want to research on and start their research.
  • Home assignment on biome given to the students.
Language Arts
  • Introduction to report writing and its features.
  • Students start the prewriting stage of the writing process and gather details on their chosen topic. They research on their topic and use books,iPads for it.
  • Students are introduced to 6+1 traits of sentence fluency and conventions.
Math
  • Introduction to multiplication as repeated addition.
  • Students revise tables from 2 to 10.
  • Students learn to multiply without carryover.
  • Students are introduced to multiplication with carry over ( standard way).

  • Grade 3 concert.

  • Grade 6 visit to the class for reader's theatre.

Weekly Update ( 26th to 30th October)

Important information: Dress rehearsal for the concert is on 2nd November.


Grade 3 concert is on 3rd November at 9:30 am in the 7th floor auditorium!!!


Unit of Inquiry

  • Students started working on their summative task. They brainstormed ideas for an invention/innovation.
  • Students worked on their summative reflection sheet and posters.
  • Students attended a guest lecture by an astronaut Dr.Don Thomas.
Language Arts
  • Students chose a writing piece that they would like to publish.
  • Students revised and proofread their chosen fictional narrative. Conferring with teachers was done.
  • Students worked on publishing their fictional narrative.
Math
  • Students practiced two step word problems.
  • Students were introduced to word problems with irrelevant information.
  • Students practiced rounding off and estimating word problems.
Other activities: Halloween celebration in the class!!!

  • Students learn about continents and oceans.
  • Students in pairs discuss their land explorers and use a Venn diagram to compare explorers.
  • Students inquire into the difference between discovery and invention.
  • Book study ( integration with language arts): students in their groups do book study on a particular exploration and reflect on it. 
  • Students are introduced to timeline and discovery of fire,invention of wheel,invention of money.

Weekly Update ( 27th Sep to 1st Oct)

Unit of Inquiry


  • Unpacking of the central idea by the students and they wrote about their understanding of the same in their notebooks.
  • Students watched the movie ' Cast Away' and did a reflection of the movie.
  • Guest lecture by Mr.Gaurav ( Junglelore).
  • Discussion in the class on 'reasons for exploration'. 

Language Arts
  • Students identified the different story elements and made a mind map on 'plot'.
  • Students were introduced to 'Fictional Narrative' genre.

Weekly Update (21 Sep-24th Sep)

Unit of Inquiry

  • The students were introduced to the new unit 'Exploration' through tuning in activities.
  • Students made a mind map on the word exploration.
  • Students did 'I see,I think,I wonder' sheet related to the tuning in activity.
  • Students made questions that they want to inquire into during the unit.
  • Students discussed the transdisciplinary theme- Where we are in place and time. They identified the profile,attitudes,skills and concepts  for the unit.
Language Arts
  • Students did 'read to self' and the reading challenges.
  • In their groups students did literature circles.
  • Students marked themselves on personal narrative rubric.
  • Students were introduced to story arc.
Math
  • Addition of 4-digit numbers with carry over-students were introduced to different addition strategies like the base 10 drawing;breaking up; vertical addition.

Weekly update (7th Sep-11th Sep)

Dear parents,
An information session on Grade 3 overnight field trip will be held in the school on 14th Sep from 8am to 9am at room no-322/325.

Our learning this week
Unit of Inquiry
  • Students made a written presentation (booklet, poster, keynote app) on their role models. 
  • Students worked on their summative task.  They reflected back on their learning and made a plan to achieve their goals. 
Language Arts
  • Students were introduced to literature circles. They read books in their groups and shared different responsibilities.
  • Students did ' read to self' and reading challenge.
  • Students continued writing personal narrative on the topic of their choice.
  • Mini lesson on dialogues was done.
  • Students chose a piece of writing they wanted to publish and revised using 'ARMS'.
 Math
  • Students continued to practice reading and interpreting  bar graphs.
  • Math assessment on place value.
Other activities: Students used see-saw app.

Weekly Update (31st Aug to 4th Sep)

Our learnings this week
Unit of inquiry
  • Students made group presentation on their role models in the class.
  • Students decided their goals and the individual role models they would like to research.
  • Students researched on their role models and gathered information. Some of the students interviewed their role models.
  • Guest lecture on Wednesday by Ms.Usha and on Thursday by Mr.Sangram Sawant.
  • Reflection of the guest lecture.

In Math students learned about:
  • Rounding off numbers to the nearest 100 and 1000.
  • Reading and interpreting information in a bar graph.
  • Gathering data and plotting a bar graph.

 Language Arts :
  • The students learned about 'show not tell' and how it can make our writing interesting. 
  • They worked on their second piece of writing ( prewriting & drafting). 
  • Mini lesson on transition words was done. 
  • Reinforcement of lesson on pronouns was done again with the students. 
  • Listen to reading and read to self are happening regularly in the class ( also integrated with UOI).

Other activities:
  • Lesson on 'empathy' with Ms.Kruti from (counseling department).
  • Recess agreements with Mr.Dave ( Deputy head of primary).
  • learning about 'Destiny Quest' with Mr.Anil Mane ( library department).

weekly update ( 24-28th Aug)


Weekly Update
Unit of Inquiry

1.     The students inquired into the concept of perspective with picture provocations.
2.     Students  found out the meaning of ‘principled’ through different realistic situations and class discussions. They gave an example of one person who they think is principled and gave reasons for the same.
3.     Gallery walk – students were provoked through pictures of some famous people and they wrote about the contributions made by these people. Class discussion on challenges these people faced in their lives and about their contributions to the world took place. The students chose 1 person they wanted to research on in groups.
4.     Students  identified how they wanted to present the data related to characteristics of role models and also learned about different features of a bar graph. They plotted the bar graph.


Math

1.     Decreasing order. Students practiced place value through extension sheets.
2.     Students were introduced to estimation and rounding off to the nearest 10 by reading a book and brainpop.

Language arts

1.     Students gathered details for their first draft. They wrote their first draft.
2.     Students inquired about ‘voice’ through different activities and were read a book.
3.     Independent reading by the student continued through out the week.
4.  Mini lesson on 'pronouns'.

Other activities: Students were introduced to the app seesaw,which they will be using for their portfolios.
